Before and After Care
Before and After Care is of the utmost importance for a successful Microblading session. It is instrumental to follow the Pre & Post care instructions below so that you optimize results through a healthy healing process. The more strict you are, the better the results so that you obtain your perfect brows. By enabling this healthy healing process, you may reduce swelling, inflammation, pigment loss and scabbing. Keep in mind the instructions are more on the safe side, but I say better to be safe than sorry!
MICROBLADING/PMU PRE-CARE
-
PLEASE PLEASE stay out of the sun a week before, the day of and as much as possible after. More sun will promote more exfoliation and lightening of the pigment.
-
Do not work out 24 hours before, the day of, or 24 hours after the procedure.
-
NO alcohol or caffeine 48 hours before the procedure, on the day of or the day after. This will help reduce bleeding and dehydration.
-
Refrain from taking Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E or Advil/Ibuprofen 48 hours before/after the procedure. (Tylenol is ok)
-
Avoid Fish Oil, Prenatal Vitamins, Nutritional Shakes, “Hair, Skin, Nail” supplements 48 hours prior to the procedure.
-
Discontinue Retin-A at least 4 weeks prior (and avoid on eyebrow area after the procedure).
-
Refrain from use of an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) products close to the eyebrow area 2 weeks prior (and avoid on eyebrow area after the procedure).
-
Hold off on any waxing, tinting, plucking or threading as far in advance as possible. (The more hair you have the more natural the Microblading 3D strokes will look as the blend into your natural hair)
-
Botox and filler anywhere on the face should be avoided 2 weeks prior to the procedure. (10 days is ok, however, the longer the better!)
-
DO NOT book a Laser Treatment (to the face such as Brilliance, Faxel, etc), Chemical Peels, Microdermabrasion or facials for 4-weeks prior procedure.
-
Try and make your appointment after your menstrual cycle so your body and skin will be less sensitive.
MICROBLADING/PMU POST-CARE
-
Send daily clean pictures of your eyebrows for 3 days to your Artist and once a week if you would like them to monitor the healing process. (I always like to see how each person heals so the more pics the better)
-
For best results, keep the brow area clean by using a natural fragrance-free gel cleanser (such as Cetaphil, Aquaphor, or coconut oil).
-
Avoid water on the eyebrows for one week after. To clean, dab with coconut oil.
-
Make sure your hands are clean. (Keep fingernails away from brows as they are one of the dirtiest parts of the body) Best to dab softly with a q-tip; no wiping or scrubbing!
-
Avoid the use of abrasive washcloths or sponges.
-
Allow eyebrows to completely air dry before applying ointment. Apply the Aquaphor or ointment of choice (for the number of days recommended by your artist)
-
DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Scabbing is a completely NORMAL part of the process and while some may scab more than others, please let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate off. Picking can cause scarring and pigment loss!
-
COMPLETELY avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for a minimum of 4 weeks after your procedure. The better you protect your skin and eyebrows from the rays, the healthier and more 3D they will appear with true to color.
-
Avoid pool, sauna, steam rooms, hot showers and/or hot baths for 3 weeks. Just try to avoid steam contact with your freshly new beautiful brows.
-
Try to avoid activities that promote sweating for a full 10 days. Sweating may cause pigment to exfoliate from the dermis layer and the goal is to reduce your skin cell rate.
-
Avoid sleeping on your face/brows for the first 10 days. You may use a bandaid to be cautious.
-
Keep your bangs and hair pulled back from your face for the first 10 days. We do not want irritation from foreign objects that may collect debris.
-
NO makeup or skincare products to be used on the treated area for 10 days.
-
DO NOT book a Laser Treatment (to the face such as Brilliance, Fraxel, etc), Chemical Peels, Microdermabrasion or facials for 4-weeks after the procedure.
-
NO Botox or any face filler for 2 weeks. If you are set on getting Botox or any face filler sooner rather than later, wait until your Touch Up is fully healed!
-
SPF 2 weeks after is a plus, coconut oil (Organic Raw is my fav) has a natural SPF of 6-8 and may be used day 1!
-
Eyebrow tinting should not be undertaken for 2 weeks after your procedure.
-
Avoid Retin-A or any other products that promote exfoliation and a faster growth rate of skin and hair.
Keep in mind, depending on the skin, the Microblading 3D brows and or all PMU procedures may reduce in size anywhere from 10% - 40% and lighten 10% - 35%. This is why it is important to monitor up to the touch up to see what is needed in final touches.
